More lessons learned about coworking
Last week we outgrew our coworking location so switched to a large coffee shop in town that has what we thought would have the necessities: free wifi, table, chair, coffee. Wrong! Coworking Tuesday was a mess today. Here’s what I think went wrong:
-Angel wasn’t there for the whole day so we had new and seasoned coworkers wandering around with no way to find one another and how...

Coworking fits the Drug Addiction Criteria
Coworking Tuesday has become a drug to me. I love coworking on Tuesdays so much that I think about it constantly, feel elated when I know it’s coming and crash and burn the day after out of depression and desperation. I found a list of drug addiction signs and I think coworking fits the bill.

Back to Business
Today was fun!
I got inspired and created and made my own business cards. I can do them in small batches and therefore update info and add my website easily when I get it.
I got to have lunch with my two best friends Luci and Chris at the same time! What a treat. We talked a lot about living your passion.
Read chapters on organization performance for class.
Set up the next free coworking...
Feeling Inspired by Community
Was really bummed out after my little incident on craigslist. Got home to find several emails from awesome graphic designers who are embarrassed by the women bashing me on CL and offering their encouragement and support. Am totally jazzed about my new graphic designer connections and hope to meet them all in person soon!
Logo contest cancelled
I had been waiting for my first big mistake as a new business owner. I created the entity last night at 8pm and by 8:15 had managed to offend most of the graphic designers in the area. Sincere apologies for requesting spec work. I had no idea that I was commiting a design crime.
Am regrouping on the logo strategy.

Who am I? Suzanne Akin - freelance graphic designer/owner of Akinz.com (clothing line)

Cohere
I have gone through about 50 different names for the space. Finally landed today after an illuminating convo with friend, David Miller, a brilliant marketing mind. Yay to www.visualthesaurus.com.
Cohere is for things of the same kind that stick together and form a whole. Honestly, what could be a better name for what we’re doing here?!
If not already obvious, it just has lots of...
The Culling Poem
Apparently, if you think hard about things you DON’T want to happen, those things will just fall away lickety-split.
Got up early to look at more space. Have heart set on one and Josh sent over my letter of intent today
Prospective occupancy is 3.15.09! Hoping that everything works out smoothly.
Parted ways with potential partners….very happy about how it worked out.

It's 1pm, do you know where you dog is?
I do, she’s staring at me using her secret tail and eyeball language to signal that I have been neglecting her!
Got up early for a class at SBDC on business entity registration. Not exactly a riveting 7am topic but useful nonetheless.
Met Andrew and talked shop about coworking.

Small business chiropractor?
Today was all about alignment. Aligning my vision with who I am. Getting business values lined up under the vision and building the basic blocks right under that. Was having anxiety and realized it was due to some mis-alignments that have occured over the past couple of weeks. Talked with a good friend and realized that I get anxious about the business every time I get pulled off track from...
Insurance quotes, leases and html, oh my!
Worked on getting a liability insurance quote today. Rate was much more affordable than what some other facilities pay. Big win!

Finding Resources...of all kinds
Yesterday was a mix of highs and lows. Will not be locating in the ArtLab after all. Wouldn’t be able to host coworkers 24/7 which is an important part of the overall mission of fccoworking.
Got a lead on a few more open spaces in Old Town
Checked out the 3rd floor of FCMOCA, way cool space at a screamin’ deal but has 0 windows and limited member access….a problem for sure.

Exciting Day Ahead

Got great referrals from my friends for some service providers I’m going to need.

Took a Day Off
I’ve been working some long hours trying to get the coworking project off the ground. Decided to take yesterday off to hang out with my best friend who came up for the weekend. We did meander over to the Art lab where local artists had set up for a show on Saturday. Browsed the art after our delicious breakfast at Silver Grill.
Today is a working day again.
Bought a handful of...
